## About this clinic

Your body, your choice.

The world of contraception is more complex than it might appear. Combined oral contraceptive pills alone come in a wide range of formulations, and alongside progesterone-only options, implants, IUDs, and other long-acting devices, the choices can feel genuinely overwhelming — particularly when you're not sure which matters for your individual situation.

Our Women's Health GPs have extensive training in hormones and the nuances of contraceptive prescribing. We take the time to understand your hormone profile, your health history, your lifestyle, and what you are hoping contraception will do for you — whether that's purely pregnancy prevention, managing troublesome periods, addressing PMOS, endometriosis, or PMDD, or finding a solution after previous contraceptives have not agreed with you.

For women who have experienced significant hormonal burden — mood changes, pain, bloating, loss of libido — we understand that the conversation is rarely simple, and we don't treat it as though it is.

**No question is too small or too complicated.**

Whether you've never thought about contraception before, or you've been trying to find something that works for years — we welcome every question. A well-informed choice, made with the right clinical support, is always the right choice.

## IUD placement & removal

IUD care with comfort in mind.

We offer IUD (intrauterine device) placement and removal in-clinic. IUDs are among the most effective and longest-lasting forms of contraception available, and can also be used therapeutically for conditions including heavy periods, endometriosis, and adenomyosis.

### Pain management

Inhaled analgesia available.

IUD insertion can be uncomfortable — and for some women, particularly those with pelvic pain conditions or who have not had children, it can be significantly so. We offer Penthrox (methoxyflurane) inhaled analgesia for IUD placement and removal, providing effective pain relief and helping you feel more in control during the procedure. We will always discuss your pain management options with you beforehand.

You can have a chaperone or support person present at all times, and you may pause or stop the procedure at any point. Your comfort and consent guide everything.

## What to expect

Unhurried, informed, supported.

New appointments are booked for 40–60 minutes, and review appointments for 30 minutes. Telehealth is available for suitable consultations. For a contraceptive consultation, this gives us time to discuss your full health history, explore your options thoroughly, and answer every question before any decision is made.

If you are having an IUD placed, this will typically be discussed at a first appointment and booked as a separate procedure appointment — giving you time to consider your options and prepare. We will walk you through exactly what to expect on the day.

Following your appointment, you are welcome to request a written patient care plan, which can be emailed to you or provided as a whole-patient care plan document. If you have been referred to us by your GP, or wish us to correspond with your GP, we are happy to write on your behalf.

####
**A note on AI note-taking:**

We use AI-assisted note-taking during consultations. This allows us to remain fully present and attentive to you, while maintaining detailed, accurate notes for your ongoing care. If you would prefer we do not use this, please let us know at any time.

## Preparing for your appointment

What to bring and what to know.

A little preparation goes a long way. Here's how to get the most from your consultation:

1. Bring a list of current medications and any relevant health history
2. If you are coming for IUD placement, take paracetamol and ibuprofen approximately one hour before your appointmen
3. Consider bringing a support person to your IUD appointment — you may feel crampy or lightheaded afterwards and it can help to have someone with you
4. Plan to rest after an IUD insertion — avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day
5. Please give at least **24 hours' notice** if you need to change or cancel — late cancellations will incur a fee
