  ## About this clinic

Young women deserve expert, comfortable care.

Adolescent and youth gynaecology is a service we care deeply about. Our GPs have specialty experience in working with young people — bringing warmth, patience, and clinical expertise to topics that can feel daunting to raise. This is a space where young women feel at ease, not embarrassed or rushed.

We believe that how a young person experiences healthcare early in life shapes their relationship with their own health for years to come. Our goal is simple: to empower young women with knowledge, confidence, and the skills to advocate for themselves — now and in the future.

#### **A note for parents:**

We welcome parents and guardians at the start of every appointment. After the initial discussion, we gently ask parents to wait in our comfortable waiting area — giving the young person a little time with their doctor. This is a deliberate and important step in helping adolescents build confidence and develop the skills to see a doctor independently. Parents are always welcome to re-join at the end.

**For parents:**

You are welcome at the start and end of the appointment. We will briefly ask you to wait outside so your young person can have a little time with their doctor — this is part of building their confidence.

### Meet our specialist Dr Emily Ware

Dr Ware has specialty training in adolescent gynaecology and a personal understanding of what it means to raise teenage and young adult daughters. She has a particular gift for building rapport with young people around the topics that feel hardest to talk about — and a commitment to making every young person feel safe, heard, and respected.

 ## What we see

Common concerns we care for.

No concern is too small, and nothing is embarrassing here. These are some of the most common reasons young people come to see us:

### General gynaecological concerns

Pain, discharge, concerns about development, contraception questions, and anything else that feels confusing or worrying.

 ## What to expect

An appointment built around comfort and trust.

New appointments are booked for 40–60 minutes, and review appointments for 30 minutes. Telehealth is available for suitable consultations. There is no rushing here. Our GPs take time to listen, explain, and make sure both the young person and their parent or guardian feel informed and at ease.

We begin with a comprehensive history and risk assessment. A parental chaperone is always present for any examination of younger patients. For adolescents, we create a brief window of time alone with their doctor — a deliberate and important part of the appointment that supports young people in developing their own healthcare voice.

####
**A note on AI note-taking:**

We use AI-assisted note-taking during consultations. This allows us to remain fully present and attentive to you, while maintaining detailed, accurate notes for your ongoing care. If you would prefer we do not use this, please let us know at any time.

 ### **We practise trauma-informed care.**

No examination is ever assumed or rushed. Everything is explained first, consent is always obtained, and the young person can decline any part of the appointment at any time. A chaperone or support person is always available.

 ## Preparing for your appointment

Help us make the most of your time.

A little preparation goes a long way. Here's how to get the most from your consultation:

1. If the appointment relates to periods or cycle symptoms, download the [**Vagenius Period Diary**](https://outsidetheboxcare.com.au/files/images/Downloads/AAA-Vagenius-Menstrual-Diary-2025.pdf) and start tracking in the weeks before — this is really useful
2. Bring a list of any current medications, including names and dosages
3. Bring any previous investigation results or letters from other doctors
4. **Parents are welcome** at the start and end of the appointment — please let us know if you have any preferences about the structure
5. Please give at least **24 hours' notice** if you need to change or cancel — late cancellations will incur a fee
