  OUTSIDE THE BOX STORY

**Outside the Box** was founded on the belief that **women's health** deserves thinking beyond the usual boundaries.

We care "outside the pelvis" - combining whole-person medicine, collaboration, creativity, and education to create a space where women feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

Our team brings decades of experience across disciplines, generations, cultures and locations, but it all comes from a common heart of empathy, honour and kindness. We've built a culture of curiosity and collaboration - one that feels like family, invests in the next generation of care providers, and protects against burnout, because the care you receive is only as good as the people giving it.

We're pioneering a partnership between the arts and medicine, believing it builds stronger community for those who often suffer in silence, and opens our eyes to new ways of healing. It's why we call what we do the art of women's health care.

We've designed our space to match - right down to our signature colour, Chalonnaise, from the French *Chalon-Aise*, a Burgundy place of rest. A room to exhale in, not a waiting room. An evening clinic, tailored appointments, and a care team invested in you mean we meet you where you are, on your terms.

Whatever brings you through our door, we're glad you're here.

Founders Story

Emily has always been both a doctor and a creative at heart - two parts of herself that, for a long time, she wasn’t quite sure how to bring together.

Before university, she was accepted into both a Fine Arts degree and Medicine. Unable to decide between them, she packed a car and travelled around Australia instead. It was during that formative year, seeing poverty and disadvantage in her own country and the profound impact they had on health and opportunity, that she knew medicine was where she could make a difference. Art, she decided, would remain alongside it.

Her path through medicine wasn’t entirely straightforward either.

Emily initially pursued a career in obstetrics and gynaecology, but stepped away from specialist training to prioritise her young family. What could have felt like a change of direction instead became one of the defining decisions of her career. She shaped a career in general practice around women’s health and discovered something she deeply valued: the privilege of walking alongside women over time.

Through this work, Emily became increasingly aware of how often women with complex health concerns felt dismissed, fragmented between services or left without an explanation for what they were experiencing. She has spent much of her career trying to change that - caring for women with complex and historically poorly understood conditions, while educating GPs, nurses, allied health clinicians, medical students and the wider community about evidence-based, validating women’s healthcare.

Along the way, she has had the privilege of working with people who have shaped her thinking about what good care can look like. Among them is Dr Amy Edler, a friend since their earliest days at medical school - beginning with nine hours a week together in the anatomy dissection room, continuing through a shared Christian journey, and eventually with Amy standing beside Emily as maid of honour at her wedding. Years later, they find themselves working alongside one another again, united by a shared vision for caring for women well.

And throughout it all, creativity never disappeared.

Emily remains happiest surrounded by people who make, imagine and see things differently. She believes creativity has a place in healthcare - not simply in the physical spaces we create, but in how we think, how we solve problems and how we help people experience connection, meaning and joy.

#### **Outside the Box brings these threads together.**

It is a place where whole-hearted care, education, collaboration and creativity can coexist; where practitioners have the time and support to listen carefully, think broadly and work together; and where women can feel heard, respected and involved in their care.

In many ways, Outside the Box is the place where the different parts of Emily’s story finally collide - medicine and art, evidence and humanity, curiosity and care.

And she is incredibly excited to share it with everyone who wants to join us in **thinking and caring Outside the Box.**
